NORMAN DRIVE WIDENING

Stretching from
Highway 84 to Highway 94, this 2.1 mile widening carries traffic along some of
the busiest commercial areas in the City of Valdosta. The existing road
needed revitalization and repair.
Project
Highlights:
- Since the area is relatively flat,
drainage became a major concern.
- The area is congested and plans had to
interface with numerous existing commercial developments, new construction
and planned construction along the Boulevard.
- Since the new County Civic Center
was located along the road, it was important that the Boulevard have an aesthetic
appearance for visitors to the Center.
- The road changed from a two lane rural
route to an urban boulevard. 0.8 miles of the road was expanded to four
lanes from two lanes and had a 20' wide raised median while another 0.8
miles was expanded to five lanes.
- With the widened road, pavement marking
and signalization was required.

- Preliminary plans with conceptual layout
alternates, database preparation, plan preparation and traffic analysis.
- Right of way plans for staking and
construction plans.
- Preliminary and final cost estimates
created for the $2.7 million project.
